UNDERSTANDING OTA UPDATES AND HOW IT WORKS…

My Attention was drawn to this function on our decoders after one of my blog readers complained of his decoder updating automatically….

He uses strong MPEG4 decoder and when ever he loads patch software to enable him use biss keys it will only work for a moment once the decoder is turned off and then reboot it starts updating automatically..

Well this update is possible via OTA.... OTA means; Over-the-air programming (OTA) refers to various methods of distributing new software updates, configuration settings, and even updating encryption keys to devices. One important feature of OTA is that one central location can send an update to all the users, who are unable to refuse, defeat, or alter that update, and that the update applies immediately to everyone on the channel.

A user could "refuse" OTA but the "channel manager" could also "kick them off" the channel automatically. this is so that the user does not have to go to a store or a service center to have applications provisioned, parameters changed or firmware or software ... Its an over the air update instead of using drives to load the soft-wares it does it automatically through a particular frequency that will link the decoder and its model to that of the manufacturers…

So far so Good here in Africa we have one company common with this update and this Company is MYTv…

MyTV does over the air upgrade.. this would have been the best and most suitable but the disadvantage is that mytv doesn’t support Biss or Powervu.. so whenever this OTA upgrade is done we loose some of these basic functions like BISS. Except we load another patch via usb or any other format to the decoder.

HOW CAN I STOP THIS OTA AUTOMATIC UPDATE.

Simply GOTO Menu on your Remote è Installation update, now if you always get this OTA Update you should see MYTV Frequency with signal… to stop this simply change the frequency or simply change the sat. to a non working TP.

And with this you need not worry of a regular unwanted update on your decoder.
